COMPETITION RULES

  1. All entries must be accompanied by a completed online entry form.
  2. All entries must have been published by media outlets from 1 January 2008 to 31 October 2008
  3. All entries must have been originally published in either a print or online media outlet, including publications of individual companies, associations or universities. The main editorial office of the media in which the entry was published must be based in one of the 27 EU Member States.
  4. The deadline for entries is 12.00 (midday) on 31 October 2008.
  5. Each entrant may submit up to three articles.
  6. Entries must be at least 3,800 characters in length (including spaces).
  7. Entries must be submitted in one of the 23 official languages of the 27 EU Member States.
  8. Entries may consist of one article or a series of articles provided that they are published in a single edition.
  9. Team entries will be accepted provided that all major contributors (e. g. researchers, journalists and editors) are listed on the entry form and that the team does not exceed 5 people.
  10. Each entry must be made with the consent of the author.
  11. Entrants should keep copies of all material submitted as entries will not be returned.
  12. The European Commission reserves the right to use entries in presentation materials and with the media, as well as for entries to be reproduced in any form for the purpose of promoting the Award and the “For Diversity. Against Discrimination” campaign.
  13. The jury’s decision is final. The jury also reserves the right to reject any entry that does not comply with the requirements of the competition.
  14. In submitting an entry, the entrant accepts that he or she has read and understood the competition rules.
  15. Entrants may be asked to provide proof that the entry has been published.
  16. Entrants must be aged 18 or older.



Additional criteria for the Special Award on the Roma

  1. To be considered for this special award, the article must focus on discrimination against the Roma based on one or several of the following grounds: racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, gender, disability or sexual orientation.
  2. The national juries may nominate an article for this prize which will then qualify for the European final.
  3. The European jury will then select a winner from the entries nominated by the national juries.
