EU-DOMMERKOMITÉ

Den europæiske vinder, vinderen af anden- og tredjeprisen samt den europæiske vinder af specialprisen om romasamfundet udvælges af en dommerkomité bestående af eksperter i antidiskrimination og fremtrædende journalister.

Information om medlemmerne af den europæiske dommerkomité 2008 vil snart blive offentliggjort.

Europa-Kommissionen vil gerne takke medlemmerne af den europæiske dommerkomité 2007 for deres deltagelse og uvurderlige støtte.

Director of the European Journalism Centre

In March 2006 Wilfried Rütten was appointed Director of the European Journalism Centre in Maastricht - an independent, international institute dedicated to promote high standards in journalism through training of journalists and media professionals. In the past Wilfred Rütten has worked in German public and private broadcasting as a reporter and producer (ARD, RTL-Group) as well as in journalism education. Before joining the European Journalism Centre he was the head of school for "digital television" at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg/ Austria.

President of the Platform of European Social NGOs and Director AGE - European Older People's Platform

Anne-Sophie Parent was elected President in March 2003, after having been a member of the Management Committee since March 2001. Mrs Parent is the director of AGE - the European Older People's Platform, which is a European confederation grouping more than 100 federations and associations of older and retired people or organisations dealing with ageing issues.

Prior to that Mrs. Parent was the Director of Autism-Europe for six years. During that period, Autism-Europe played a key role in the establishment of the European Disability Forum and of the World Autism Organisation. When elected member of the Social Platform Management Committee, Mrs Parent was given the task to strengthen the Social Platform's relations with the Belgian Presidency

Born in Aden, Yemen in 1965. He attended Dundee University, London University and Postgraduate study of international law at London School of Economics. He is a member of the Labour Party and was political advisor to Rt. Hon. Dr. John Reid, MP and Paul Boateng, MP. Mr Moraes' achievements include being Director of the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants, as well as Commissioner for the Commission of Racial Equality.

He has held various posts within the London Labour Party, and currently serves as Vice-Chairman for the Delegation for relations with South Africa in the European Parliament.

Brussels-based journalist and expert in anti-discrimination issues

Shada Islam is a Brussels-based journalist specializing in EU foreign and development policies as well as immigration and anti-discrimination issues.  She writes for dpa, the German news agency and for several Asian, African and Middle East newspapers and magazines.  She is also a regular contributor to the BBC, the Bulletin and E-Sharp magazine.
